For those of you who are new to Game Genie and HEX editing. This is for you.
This will give some of the basics so you can get settled.
(Any images that I post that are too big to view will have a link posted below)

Accessing Game Genie Save Editor
Once you have placed your save file onto your Game Genie USB you can then plug it into your PC/Laptop and start editing.
If you, like me live in Europe, then you will need to do the "rename folder" trick to be able to edit your save file.

'Rename Folder' Trick
Using White Knight Chronicles International Edition as an example, you can use this simple trick to be able to edit your save.
You will notice upon uploading your save to Game Genie that you are unable to access your save to apply codes. This is what you need to do.
Open up your Game Genie Folder. You will see your Save File.

Image

*NOTE: Each game will have a different region code. This example will only work for WKC: IE*

Right click your save folder and select 'Rename'. You will want to change it from BCES00225 to BCUS98146. This changes your Region from EU to US.

Image

You will now be able to access your save in Game Genie to edit codes.

Using Quick Mode
Once in Game Genie you be given a list of games that your USB has saves of.
Find the game you wish to edit, right click it and select Quick Mode.

If you haven't already added any Quick Codes then all you will see is what Game Genie has provided. Right click the 'Max Money' cheat and select 'Add Cheat'.

You can find Quick Codes posted by the community here:
viewforum.php?f=16

Simply enter your own codes if you know how to create them, or copy & paste codes the community has posted.

Description - Name of your cheat
Comment - Description of what the code does
Codes - Enter/Paste the codes here

Advanced Mode
Advanced mode is where most people get very confused. For newcomers to Hex Editing you will see thousands of numbers and letters. With no clue how to read them, and no clue what to do, it can put you off.
Lets take some simple steps towards understanding the basics.

Each save that can be edited by Game Genie should have its own Forum Thread here on TheGameGenie forums. Each game has a different view of Advanced Mode.
Now lets take a look at my example of WKC: IE.

Image
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/lolsigning/5.png

Seems crazy right? You're probably sitting there thinking... what the heck is this sorcery!

At the bottom of Advanced Mode you'll find a search bar. Time to get familiar with it, it will become your best friend when using Advanced Mode.

Image
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/lolsigning/6.png

When searching for codes most of the time you are going to need to put
0x
Before your code.

For example, when searching for your Avatar in WKC: IE you need to search for the following code.
Avatar ID - 0ED5C9C8
In the search bar you will need to type 0x0ED5C9C8

Image
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/lolsigning/7.png

Once you search for that code, Game Genie will highlight the code you searched for.
This will allow you to find the correct location of the coding you may want to edit.

Now there is no need to get too confused about the codes you need to search for. That is what the Advanced Mode section of the forums is for.
You will find all the help for each available game there.

Suggestions
There are a few things you can do to help your learning journey run a bit more smoothly.

1) Take Notes!
Use a notepad and pen, or just use the notepad program on your PC/Laptop to take notes on what you have learnt.
Keeping note of codes will mean you don't need to rack your brain trying to remember everything.

2) Read through the forums!
Chances are the questions you have, have already been asked countless times.
Do a search for your wanted subject, browse around and have a read.

3) Ask questions!
If you are stuck looking at page after page of coding with no clue what to do, you can feel isolated from everyone. Like everybody around you are Rocket Scientists, while you struggle to take the first step.
STOP - DON'T WORRY!
Nobody here is out to embarrass you. Please do not feel discouraged from asking questions. Whether it is on the Forums or through Private Message.
After you get a hang of the very first step, and you practise a little - You will be beating yourself up.
Why you ask? Because you will realise how stupidly simple this really can be!

That is exactly what happened to me. So take some deep breathes, it is called Trial And Error for a reason. If you try and it doesn't work, go back and try again.

You will feel extremely proud of yourself once you get it right. That is a promise :)

Thanks for the tutorial, I seem to be having a little problem though, just got the GG recently and when i try to copy a code and paste it in the quick mode window nothing happens, so that leaves me only the option of typing them in. Copy paste works fine with other applications but won't seem to paste in the GG quick code window.

Any quick codes posted on the forums you should be able to highlight them, right click and press Copy.

When you are in Quick Mode right click on a cheat that is already on the list, and select Add Cheat...

Now right click in the Codes section (big box at the bottom) and paste.
You shouldn't have any issues with it.

Thanks for the quick reply, I don't know what the problem is, but it seems to only exist on my desktop. I just finished installing GG on my laptop and everything is copying over just fine, so I will have to troubleshoot my desktop later. Thanks again.

I do not have this product yet. Whether I buy it or not depends on the software's capability to edit certain item's stats, stats that are normally unobtainable in-game. For instance, there is an armor called Trophy Jacket. Normal version of this item does NOT have resistance to certain debilitations such as Skill Stifling and Petrification.

Using Advanced Mode, can Game Genie alter the stats on Trophy Jacket to add resistances and stats that are simply unobtainable in normal gameplay?

I have a lot of games that are not yet on GG list. Is there a way to enter advanced mode on a save that shows in a red bar?

Nope. We add games as we make cheats for them so we know what'll work and what needs further work doing on it.

You can of course help by uploading saves :)

I'll begin with that then. Have to get the stats, ammo, etc written first.

Does the rename trick work for all games?

For example... in the "Current Game List" on the homepage, the Gran Turismo 6 supported version is BCJS37016. Im in the US, so I have GT6 version BCES01893. In my save data would I rename the BCJS37016 to BCES01893 and then the cheats would work?

I don't think it does work for all games. This method isn't an "official" way of using Game Genie and it hasn't been fully tested. But I personally have had it work for some games and not work for others.
